Jo Lanier Meeks

For more than 30 of her 43 years in private legal practice, Jo Lanier Meeks worked in areas of professional liability defense to the financial services industry, director and officer liability, and securities, commercial and business litigation. She represented parties in civil disputes in state and federal courts, primarily in Georgia, and before FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) arbitration and other ADR panels, handling cases involving broker-dealer, broker/registered representative and registered investment advisor liability, insurance disputes, restrictive covenants, contract disputes and insurance agent/insurance agency liability. She also represented banks, accountants and ERISA professionals in lawsuits alleging negligence, fraud and breach of contract.

Jo has been a speaker at seminars on topics of professional liability in the financial services industry, federal and state securities litigation, business litigation and trial practice. She also has significant experience in real estate and condemnation-related litigation. Each year from 2010 through 2022, Jo was recognized as a Georgia SuperLawyer.

Jo has been a certified and registered neutral in Georgia since 2018. Previously, she served as an arbitrator for FINRA Dispute Resolution.

A Georgia native, Jo attended the University of Georgia, earning a B.B.A. degree in accounting (summa cum laude) in 1976 and a J.D. degree from the School of Law (cum laude) in 1979. She was a founding partner of the Atlanta firm of Pursley Howell Lowery Meeks LLP. She also was a partner at Kutak Rock LLP (Atlanta) and most recently at James Bates Brannan Groover LLP (Atlanta). She retired from private practice at the end of 2022 to devote time to mediation and arbitration work.
