Acceptance
Maintain a position of equality, never superiority. Make others feel free to express themselves and interact without fear of being negatively judged. Act without prejudice or bias. Acknowledgment
Give others full attention by listening, hearing, and valuing their concerns and what they have been through. Respond to others in a manner that demonstrates a desire to understand their situation and position.
Fairness
Treat every individual with fairness and equality.
Inclusion
Try to make others feel that they belong and that their perspectives are valued.
Recognition
Recognize that each individual possesses valuable characteristics and talents. Strive to be generous with praise. Give credit to others for their contributions, thoughtfulness, hard work, ideas, and experiences.
Safety
Seek to put people at ease physically and psychologically. They should feel free from the possibility of bodily harm, free to speak without fear of retribution, and free from concern about being shamed or humiliated.
Benefit of the Doubt
Always assume that others are acting with integrity, good motives, fairness, and honesty. Give others the benefit of the doubt.
Independence
Encourage people to take control of their lives. Give them a sense of hope and possibility.
Understanding
Trust that what others think and care about matters. Listen actively with an open mind to their perspectives and points of view. Seek to truly understand their position and value their viewpoints.
Accountability
Avoid hurtful behaviors or contributing to a hostile environment. Take responsibility for your actions; apologize for violating another person's dignity even if the violation was unintentional.
